3D animation for a film adaptation of the famous scifi novel Solaris by Stanisław Lem.

I am pleased to share my recent work where I collaborated with Nicolas Perreau on his ambitious sci-fi movie adaptation of Stanisław Lem's renowned novel, "Solaris." My contributions to this project focused on bringing to life two pivotal elements: Planet Graveyard and the Orphea 36 Spaceship.

One of the unique aspects of Planet Graveyard is its emotional depth. Unlike any typical celestial body, this planet has a 'soul' and exhibits emotions through its changing colors. Throughout the movie, the planet's colors dynamically shift, reflecting various moods and adding a profound layer of narrative complexity and visual intrigue.
The challenge was to create an effective visual storytelling, through the planet's emotional transitions, ensuring that each color change aligns with the evolving storyline and emotional beats of the film. This required meticulous attention to detail in the animation and texturing processes.

The Orphea 36 Spaceship's design draws inspiration from brutalist architecture, resembling a concrete building. This choice was intentional to evoke a sense of entrapment and heighten the psychological tension between the familiarity of everyday life and the desolate vastness of space.
By merging the atmospheric ambiguity and the stark, cold aesthetics of brutalist structures with the boundless void of space, the spaceship becomes a symbol of confusion and existential dread, perfectly aligning with the themes of "Solaris."
